There are outstanding grey alpaca sires coming up the ranks in North America and we believe Emerald Farm’s Stratus Cloud is one of the very best. We feel fortunate to have purchased Stratus from Debbie and Barry Bartmasser, with our good friends Bob Shailer and Phil Lasswell of Janus Alpaca and Fiber Company. Bob and Phil spoke highly of the selective breeding program that Debbie and Barry developed with their “Cloud Line” originating with their foundation female, Camana Snowy River. That line has produced notable Gray Champions, including Orlando Cloud, Rincon Cloud, Calypso Cloud, Mirra Cloud and more.

Be sure to take a good look at Stratus Cloud’s ARI Certificate. He boasts an amazing “Who’s Who” lineage through both his sire and dam. Stratus Cloud’s sire is the famous MRG, Premier’s Absolute (Peruvian Don Julio and Rosario grandson). Absolute has consistently produced award winning offspring and high selling females at auctions. Absolute sold for $150,000 at the 2006 Celebrity Sale Auction! Stratus Cloud’s dam is a beautiful LSG Danko daughter and granddaughter of Bolivian Mr. Know It All and Camana’s Snowy River! We are all very excited about adding these wonderful genetics to our breeding programs.

Stratus wears a beautiful LRG fleece of the lavender/pink shade-a very exotic color that we love and hope to see more of in our herd (see Jia on our female listing). Stratus has the goods: beautiful head, dense topknot, sturdy bone, and his bite and conformation are right on. And then there’s his fleece: excellent coverage and density, well defined crimp, very soft hand, and good staple length. With all this good news it gets better-Stratus settled his first females at 18 months! He will be available for a few outside breedings at Little Circle Farm mid-May 2007.
